This is the first personal article I am writing for the site, though Zakieh has written a bunch before. My previous articles have been about work and included some tips and tricks. I got my inspiration for this article from the picture that you see here. This is infact the very first picture of Zakieh and me.

We actually found each other online. This might be one reason we like the Internet as much as we do! We talked and argued about politics for a long time. She was in Iran, teaching English and volunteering for UN, and I was here working two jobs to pay off my loans. In fact for the longest time she could not decipher my Yahoo id (aghadam) which is a shortened version of my old name –before I became a citizen and changed my name– so she thought that I was from some place in Africa!

We went back and fort about the world politics. Though I admired her work with the UN I remember expressing my dislike of these gigantic paper pushing organizations on a few occasions.
